PAB SUNGENIS – NEW ADVENTURES OF QUEEN VICTORIA CONSISTENTLY TERRIFIC! (Tho pasted not drawn, like Bond’s martini’s, ‘shaken, not stirred’)

Last summer I put a panel of Queen Elizabeth 1 & Queen Vic talking in the royal garden. I sent my storage unit clerk sister the week long strip of Queen Vic running a storage unit where there were no individual lockers but just everything thrown into a huge room in piles.
I had no idea of the brilliance & depth of this wonderful strip till I did a little research and discovered his support of other cartoonists, his speaking out on social issues (like the clan), that he does what is called, ‘photo manipulation,’ a lot more complex than a little paste, and that there was an outcry (of course there would be), when he put the Virgin Mary in (one of my all-time favorite (& humourless) characters, so she then became a permanent fixture. I am vastly enjoying her reactions to the Superbowl.

I loved her being a fry cook at McDonald’s, (that Scottish restaurant) and began pushing haggis at the hamburger eaters. While I think cutting and pasting the strip is more difficult than drawing, the artist deserves endless scripting credit along with a sense of humour that doesn’t quit. Plus the sense of history. Plus. Plus.

I’m a fan.
